BIOGRAPHY
Adrian Rosales is a lyric baritone and a native of Portland, Oregon who has performed with various companies and music festivals in the US and Europe. He received his Master’s Degree in Vocal Arts/Opera from the University of Southern California.
An enthusiastic interpreter of contemporary music, Adrian Rosales recently sang several roles in the world premiere of Paul Davies' Carlota, and the Tritone in Long Beach Opera's US Premiere of Gavin Bryars' Marilyn Forever; an opera about Marilyn Monroe. Rosales covered the Doctor in Barber's Vanessa and also created the role of Bud Treon and wrote dialogue alongside Tony Winning playwright, Mark Medoff, in a workshop of Medoff and Randall Shinn's Rose in Flames, at the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre. Rosales received critical acclaim for his “...vibrant voice and keen acting...” from the Boston Musical Intelligencer and the Boston Classical Review for his portrayal of Tarquinius in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia with Opera Brittenica. Other recent performances include the Bass in Michael Gordon's Vangogh with the 'What's Next? Ensemble of Los Angeles' and John Adams' The Wound-Dresser with orchestra in recital.
Rosales' greatly enjoys classical musical theatre and operetta. He played Voltaire/Dr. Pangloss and Chino in the Aspen Music Festival's productions of Bernstein's Candide and West Side Story, the Cantaor in Leigh & Darion's Man of La Mancha, and covered Billy Bigelow and Curly McClain in Rodger & Hammerstein's Carousel and Oklahoma! at the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre. His experiences with classical repertoire include covering Taddeo in Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri with Opera San Jose, playing the bumbling sergeant Belcore in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore with Oberlin in Italy, Mercurio in La Calisto by Cavalli with Pacific Opera Project, covering Schaunard in Puccini's La Boheme at the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, and, most recently, making his debut with the Tacoma Opera as Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni.
Rosales was recently named a semi-finalist in the 3rd Annual James Toland Vocal Arts competition. He is a two time prize winner of the Henry and Maria Holt Scholarship Audition, hosted by West Bay Opera, and a two time finalist in the Annual International Opera Competition, hosted by the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre. Future engagements include covering Rev. Olin Blitch in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah with the Pasadena Opera and Orpheus in Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice with the Brava! Opera Theater.
When he is not singing, Adrian enjoys a variety of hobbies including cooking, exercising, studying tax law and computer science, watching college football, writing and performing stand-up comedy, and playing video-games.
